Pete Rhodes

Extreme Climber

Profile: Pete Rhodes' unquenchable appetite for big wall climbing has taken him on some wild journeys, from ten ascents of Yosemite's El Capitan, both solo and in 12 hours, to an attempt at a 1000m+ new route on Patagonia's Cerro Catedral. Although relatively young in the game, his achievements exemplify an ambitious and talented climber. The Yosemite training has allowed him to complete some other impressive ascents including the UK's steepest rockface, Sron Ulladale on the Isle of Harris. The California years also proved to be invaluable in slackline training and Pete has done a number of impressive first 'walks' in the UK.

Closer to home Pete was second in this seasons Scottish Dry-Tooling Series narrowly missing out on the series title in the final event. Training for all the big routes involves climbing all over the UK and Europe whenever possible as well as a range of other pursuits from sea kayaking to road biking and kiteboarding. He's ridden mountain bikes since childhood and can still just about hold his own on a trials bike!

Pete's penchant for the vertical world has him planning a winter ascent of the Troll Wall, Norway and an expedition to the Charakusa Valley of Pakistan in the near future.

Testimonial:  'The Wool Buff is without doubt one of my most treasured, used and abused pieces of gear. I can't think of a single outdoor pursuit that it hasn't come on and it never stops giving. Doubled up as a super warm hat, as a balaclava under bike or snowboard helmets, permanently round my neck in gnarly Scottish winter weather. The other two favourites are the headband Buff for super light weight trips and the UV Buff for sun-stroke prevention, an affliction I have known all too well in the past!'
